Pilgrimage to Celebrate the Feast of The Assumption of Our Lady 2023
Words & Photographs by Harry Baker
The annual pilgrimage to Celebrate the Feast of The Assumption of Our Lady took place last Sunday 13th August 2023 at the Shrine of Our Lady at Mount Grace Priory Our Lady.
The uphill walk from the car-park to the shrine felt like a pilgrimage in itself. For those not wanting to make the journey on foot a shuttle bus service was available.
The weather was kind to the 250 or so people who were present and despite threatening rain and an ominous dark sky the rain held off during the entire afternoon of Rosary & Mass.
Each decade of the Rosary was taken in turns by different members of the Catholic youth and in between we sang “Ava Maria”. The choir and musicians were in good form.
Bishop Terry conducted the Mass. The ninth Abbot of Ampleforth Dom Robert Igo, & many Priests, deacons & representatives from the Parishes were also present.
Fr Pat Keogh, from St Hilda’s Whitby was among those present.
Fr Michael Weitl from Madonna House in Robin Hoods Bay was also in attendance and helped with the dispensation of communion.
Afterwards we all enjoyed refreshments of tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes.
The afternoon was a great success and those present were uplifted and moved by the spirit of the event which swept through the whole proceedings.
