The Tuesday Singers Christmas Concert 2024
By Harry Baker
The Tuesday Singers Christmas Concert at St. Hilda’s RC church was held on Wednesday 11th December 2024 at 7pm led by Musical Director Stephen Maltby & Accompanist Angela Hannaford.
The acoustics of St.Hilda’s church & the atmospheric setting blended perfectly with the beautiful vocal arrangement of the singers in this chamber choir.
The haunting melody of songs such as “Of a Rose – a Lovely Rose” by John Rutter and through many classical & new arrangements of traditional Christmas carols were all handled with exquisite sensitivity.
The flawless delivery of the music & singing under the skilled guidance of Conductor Stephen Maltby himself an accomplised musician & singer soloed a Fantasia of Christmas Carols, a medley of traditional English carols by Vaughan Williams.
Our own Baritone soloist Nicholas Fanelli sang “The Three Kings” by Peter Cornelius.

Conducted by Stephen Maltby.
Accompanied on piano by Angela Hannaford & The Tuesday Singers Chamber Choir.
We also enjoyed some ‘Audience Carols’ & playful audience participation with verses of certain carols being divided into ‘ladies & gentleman’s verses’ and we were invited mischievously by Stephen to sing the respective verses while the choir were engaged in providing background accompaniment.
A wonderful & moving evening of music was enjoyed by all who attended.
Tea, Coffee & mince pies were available in the church hall afterwards to round the evening off & gave those attending a chance to chat with the singers.
In addition £202.11 was raised in aid of a local charity ‘Foodbank for Whitby and District’.
